Backpacking in Kathmandu on Mountain Bike - Day 2 1 Year, 1 Month ago Karma: 1
Once arrived in Kathmandu after a tiring journey and spending a chilled cold lovely night it is time to explore the valley on bike. The best way to get around in Kathmandu Valley would be riding a Mountain Bike. It is not necessary to have a super mountain bike but rather a normal bike would do. Please be reminded that it is highly recommended to wear mask as the pollution level in the capital Kathmandu is very nasty. And if you are a sensitive to dust and dirt and smoke it is not recommended to go for biking in the Kathmandu Valley.

Starting the journey on Day 2 -
Go grab a cab and walk head towards Thamel, or any near y tour agency. Thamel wold be highly recommended as it does have certain place to rent imported Mountain bikes. In case you wish to buy a low range local bikes rush towards some arcade or request the information from the hotel. You should be able to find a reasonable bike for rent from Nepali Rupees 800 to Nepali Rupees 1300 per day. Please note that the cost of renting a bike could vary significantly depending on the range and grade of bike.

Once you are ready with the bike, prepare to ike along the Ashon (the busiest market place in Kathmandu). I bet it would be consider a miracle if a person doesn't touch his feet on ground and bikes towards New Road without touching his feet on ground.

Once you are at the intersection of New Road, take a path towards right side where you would get to see a narrow road and heading further straight will get you towards the amazing view of various temples. Bike around in that area and get assistance from young guys to ride towards the Kumari house (the home of the only living goddess of Nepal). This would get you to basantpur and the famous window from ancient times are seen crafted in the palace and temples.

Enjoy your Mount-Biking around the New Road, Ason and Kumari Temple, New Road areas.
